I have a score that is written in Finale 25 in the key of Eb for a trumpet and I want to send it to Logic Pro X as a midi track. Inside Logic, I want to use the Garritan JABB3 library to play the piece.
I'm not sure what to do here. I don't have a background in transposing instruments.
If I export the Finale file as midi and import it into Logic, then assign a trumpet from the Garritan library, it plays just fine. My problem is that when I add the score/midi for an alto sax to Logic and select that instrument from JABB3, the result sounds like a bunch of New York taxis at rush hour, not the harmonous sound I'm looking for.
I have several alto sax, trumpet, and trombone parts to add to Logic. All the the sheet music is correct (i.e. got it from the publisher and entered the key signatures notes correctly).
Does Finale export a transposing instrument as concert pitch when it creates the midi file?
Just to be clear, I pick a trumpet as the instrument in the Score Manager. If I did not select an instrument and let it play as a piano, then I know there would be no transposition on the midi export - it would just export the midi in the key of Eb in this case.
If you can explain how to do this properly, I'd really appreciate it.
thanks
Dave
