I Finally upgraded my old iMac 2009 model to a brand new iMac Pro. I am amazed with the performances of this machine on demanding applications like inDesign and Photoshop. I installed and configured both Finale 2012 and Finale 25.

Initial impression of Finale 25 is amazing. The display on the Retina screen shows so much detail... then I tried to mess around a score to see how reactive Finale would be. I wasn’t using 25 on my old mac because it felt much less responsive than Finale 2012, and I need performance. Can’t afford waiting for a reaction to my many moves on Finale.

So the first speed test of Finale 25 failed miserably! I can’t believe that with such a powerful machine MakeMusic could not get Finale 25 to perform at a decent speed! I am so disappointed... Scrolling through the score with such a giant lag... :-(

Has there been official statements from MakeMusic staff acknowledging the speed issue with Finale 25 on Macs?

How many do you want? Yes, this has been an issue and not just with Finale 25.

The Retina screen or the graphics card seems to be the issue. Not all users experience it and Finale is not the only application so affected. There is a workaround for now (it's not a fix, however). Go to this support doc from Apple:

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202471

Scroll down to the Open app in Low Resolution mode section to find those steps.

MM assures us they are working to solve this but we have not heard more than that.

Thank you Mike,

Setting the Finale 25 to Low resolution is the solution I got from technical support. It’s no candy for the eyes but it is a lot faster. Some of the more system demanding software I use are lightning fast on this computer, especially InDesign and Photoshop. Huge documents that were lagging a lot and having slow display issues in InDesign are incredibly snappy with this iMac Pro.

I am certainly awaiting a fix from MakeMusic, since Finale does not support this new technology at the moment.

Yes, I plan on getting one in.... April, I think.  Mostly to use Logic Pro, but I do want to get Finale on it as well.
