I cannot get the tuplet tool to do what I want it to do, and the user manual offers no suggestions.  I specify in the dialog box how many notes of a certain value I want to fit into a note of some larger value, and I seem to have some success up until the end of the bar.  For example, if I want three triplet eighths in the space of a quarter note, I enter this information into the dialog box, keeping the "display bracket/number" boxes checked.  I am then presented with the little squares that I can click and drag to form a bracket over the notes.  I then select three eighth notes to enter, and have success the first time, but then if I need to enter another set of triplets, the system will stop me before I can enter the third eighth note of the set.  So instead of two sets of triplets, I will get one set of triplets and two eighths (forming a quarter note value) at the end of the bar.  Please advise.

Forget the instructions, and don’t use the tuplet tool.

Enter the first eighth note.

Tap Alt-9 (on a Mac, Opt-9) to open the tuplet dialogue box.

Set up the tuplet as you want it. If all of your tuplets in that piece will be the same layout, click Save as Default. (In the future, you will only tap the 9 to set up the triplet.)

Click OK to return to the score. You will see your first note, and two rests. Enter your remaining notes in place of the rests.

Please add your Finale version and OS to your signature, in the user control panel.
