General Overall Question

Hello ~

I own Window 10 in the form of Surface Pro.

I used to own a Korg Triton on which I composed and sequenced. That is gone.

I am considering a more mobile set-up, one which is PC based rather than based on a specific keyboard or music station. One that could create quality tracks that I could take with me wherever I may be. Also, it would seem to be considerably cheaper than spending $3000 on a new music station.

In order to do this, I would assume I would need a MIDI controller keyboard, but I cannot fathom how this would interface with this software, which I would think would be based inside my computer.

Also, I see Garriton and Finale listed, which I am assuming is the sound generator and the sequencer. Would these products replace a music workstation/sequencer for creating and recording? Or, would I be better off getting another Korg Workstation, such as the Pa4X or Krome?

Read up on MIDI in the Help files. This will give you an understanding of how to use a controller with Finale.

Although you can do a lot, Finale remains a notation app with MIDI capabilities. It will not take the place of a full-on MIDI or Audio DAW (Digital Audio Workstation).

There are many solutions for what you want to do. There are software only apps that can use a simple MIDI controller (Digital Performer, Cubase and many others) or hardware/software solutions from Native Instruments and other companies. You need to do some research and figure out the end result—this will lead you back to the "how to get there" that works best.

At this point, your question is along the lines of I need to get from A to B. I used to have a car. What should I buy now? We can make a ton of suggestions but, until you have a good idea of what you want, we're guessing blindly.
