I am unable to reproduce this problem.

For me, the Enter key adds a note where the crosshair is positioned.

And the Return key moves the Speedy Entry rectangle one staff down.

You probably already know that each menu item has its keyboard shortcut displayed in the right side of the menu.

1) Take a look in the sub-menu

Speedy menu > Speedy Edit Commands > …

* What keyboard shortcut is displayed for the command

Add Note

?

2) Take a look in the sub-menu

Speedy menu > Speedy Navigation > …

* What keyboard shortcut is displayed for the command

Yes, the enter/return key on a MBP moves the speedy edit frame down. FWIW, if you want to make the speedy edit frame go up, press shift-enter.

But to add notes to existing notes position the cursor where you want it and press fn-enter.
