I am running into a problem trying to create a special tools note ahead. As you see there is a white background included with the notepad. Can you help in getting rid of that?

If I understand you correctly, this layout is Tablature notation, so that the numbers are “normal” noteheads, right?

And the “special noteheads” must be the two x noteheads, right?

 

I do not know what font(s) you are using.

The following example was done with the font Arial 11 Bold:

 

Is this the layout you need?

Thanks for your help Peter - I appreciate it!

The background around the Arial font you are using is is definitely tighter - I was using maestro for my X. It still is odd that there is such an overhang of background on the X - there isn't any of this with the numbers.

I was able to solve the whole background issue by deselecting the "break tablature lines at numbers" option in the staff attributes.
