Operating System: iMac High Sierra 10.14.4 Finale: 25.5.0.259
For many years I have encountered problems with the lyric editor. I have called on several occasions, but your software engineers seem to not be able to correct this problem. Let me explain.
I regularly prepare choral scores (3 staves) that have soprano and alto in the top staff (layer 1 & 2), tenor on the second staff (layer 1) and bass on the third staff (layer 1). I type the text into the Lyric Window (or paste it there from another source), and then prefer to click-assign the syllables to the appropriate notes.
Now here's the catch. If I have been notating (or correcting something I've noticed) in the alto (layer 2) and FORGET to choose layer 1 before going back to click-assigning more lyrics, Finale hangs up and I have to force a quit.
What's more, I often copy from an already existing file that has the same music in certain sections. When I do this (1) I'm never sure WHERE (in which Verse) it is going to put the text for the music I've copied into the new file; and (2) when I go to click-assign the newly imported lyrics to music in the new file, it does not assign the lyrics...it does nothing. The only way to proceed is to Type Into Score, and that renders the pasting half useless. Of course I realize I can change the settings in the Edit menu and take along only the notes without the lyrics, but that is unproductive.
So I'm saying that either your programmers are out of their depth on this one; and I do have to admit that I don't think what I'm doing is in any way unusual. Many church musicians would be doing exactly the same thing, and we value the features of Finale to do our usual things. But the fact that I can MAKE finale crash by either intentionally or mistakenly trying to assign lyrics to the wrong layer (and why should I not be able to assign lyrics to another voice in polyphony where different voices sing different syllables at the same time?).
Is there some explanation in the Finale materials that I've missed years ago? Or is this a problem that needs to be addressed? Please help me out here.
