About a week ago, my Finale has gotten harder to click through; a few examples:

  • If I'm in chord mode, I now have to click a blank space after entering a chord, then I have to hit the ESC key in order to leave chord mode, whereas I previously could just click the Selection Tool (currently if I hover over the selection tool while in chord mode, it doesn't register that I'm hovering, and clicking doesn't do anything)
  • When I enter ":0" with a chord to bring up the suffix selection, if I try to click a suffix, it'll bring up the suffix selection window again (on top of the first copy), and I have to make selections in both windows to close out, but then 2 chords are applied in the same space, one with the suffix and one without.
  • When I try to shift chord alignment (with the left-hand tool with the 4 triangles), I used to be able to click directly, but now I have to click a few times in the white space or near the triangles to get my cursor to register.
  • Finale now crashes and restarts 3-4 times a day, whereas that would previously happen maybe once every 2 weeks at most.

I don't believe that it coincided with any system updates. Is this something that a reinstall/repair install would fix? I have Finale 2012c for Windows 10.

Resetting the Preferences is the first thing I would try.

If all you had to do to exit Chord mode was click the Selection Tool, then your experience has been highly unusual. The safest way to exit the Chord mode has always been to press ESC twice.

I am also getting the double chords. This appears new and needs to be fixed.

I have had the problem getting the mouse to turn into a baseline cursor to move the lyric arrowheads (similar to the chord baseline arrowheads) for many versions of the program. This should also be fixed.

(I have sent a sample file to MM Support for their analysis.)
