I am looking for a way to change the font face for all text objects (title, text boxes, chord letters, lyrics).

The original .mus files are in Finale Version 1 (yes ONE) format. When I open a file in Finale for Windows Version 2011, the text is all set to the font "MS Serif".

I am able to change the font of one object at a time, but I have 90 separate files to edit; each with many text objects. Also, when I change the font for the lyrics, the notes reposition on the staff (and not optimally).

Thanks for any advice!

There are two ways. One is to go to Document/Data Check/Font Utilities... and then select Search for This Font. You can choose the old font and then the button Replace Font With will become available. Select the new font you'd like to replace the old one. This is useful if you want to change all iterations of a font in the document. If you need to be more specific, let's say, only in Lyrics, go to Edit/Text Search & Replace. There you can select and replace not only a font but also a font style (even without selecting a font) or text. I also use this to replace characters, misspelled words, bold typeface into regular, etc. Also a very powerful utility.

Thanks very much for the tips, Vaughan.

I had tried those steps earlier without success. I poked around some more, and figured out why search and replace wasn't working: the font used in the original (1991 version 1) file, "Tms Rmn" isn't on my current computer. I thought the text was in "MS Serif", but it's actually in "Tms Rmn". Finale gave me a hint of this because it shows the name of the original font when I go to Text > Edit Text, and the name of the font it substituted on file open when I go to Text > Font.

So the solution was to use your Edit > Text Search and Replace tip and specify the original font (not the one that Finale substituted on file open). Whew!

I don't know about 2011, but do you have Plug-ins > Miscellaneous > Change Fonts... ?

If Mike's idea didn't work, try this - go to https://www.wfonts.com/font/tms-rmn and download the font "tms rmn". It's free...

Install this font into your system using the Font Book app.

Restart your Finale app and re-open the legacy file. Try Vaughan Schlepp's idea again - Finale might now let you do the global font find and replace.

Mike's tip should work for the specific items listed in that plug-in too, I've used it many times.

Good luck - let us know if installing that font allowed the global data check font process to complete.

Hi Mike, thanks for the Change Fonts plug-in tip. It works if I just one to change one size at a time. This is because even though I leave the Font Style and Font Size fields blank, it defaults to Regular 10 pt.

Hi Doug, great tip. I should have thought of installing the old font myself. Now Vaughn's tip to use Search for This Font works just fine. And the note spacing no longer shifts around either.

Thanks to the Community here for your quick help!
