Windows 7 Pro, Finale 25 (current)

Hi all!

Until tonight, I have never had a problem Exporting a file to PDF. I do this to take to a Print shop to print directly from the PDF, rather than to photocopy.

Tonight, though, I can "Save as..." but whenever I attempt to Export, I get an Error Message, "Location is not available"

Interestingly, even when I created a new document with "Default document" and saved it to a different drive, I get the same error message with the same file path to the same folder.

I did find one post about this, but the solution was inadequate. It did mention, however, something about a "User Defined" temp folder or file. But, I can't find where it is. Seems like the solution would be to find it and delete it? Maybe? :-)

I am ready to print, and am stuck--literally.

Thank you!
:-)

I just had a thought--a throw-back to another era.

Rather than "Export..." to PDF, I chose "File/Print..." then in "Setup" changed the printer to Adobe PDF.

It worked, as far as I can tell--going to bed now. Perhaps some fonts or something did not come out correctly, but I'll check tomorrow.

STILL, though, not a fix for the EXPORT problem :-(

Thank you,
:-)

#Vanessa download an app that's called cutePDF. And print as you did, but change the printer to cutePDF and you will always get what want. All symbols, right to left languages etc. Try it you will be satisfied. The export to PDF isn't of high quality.

Finale's direct handling of PDF has been error-prone, since it was introduced. CutePDF (or another of the free third-party options) is a better choice.

Another option is to export the score as a PDF, using the Graphics tool. This has the advantage of yielding a smaller file, with true black.

Hi guys,

Thank you for your advice.

Because of my innate curiosity, I pursued this in a slightly different manner, partly because Exporting to PDF has always worked for my in the past.

The error message says the "...location... is unavailable."

So, I went to where the MSDOS path said, to the folder \TT_Set_One and discovered it was not there.
Logical assumption when I thought about it.

Then I remembered a few weeks ago I had decided to reorganize my files and folders and moved some things around.

My solution, then, was simply to recreate the path stated in the error message.

I opened Finale, created a new document from the default, saved it into the recreated folder--using the aforementioned path, and then Exported the new file to PDF without a problem.

Just to make sure, I then opened an existing file and chose to Export it into PDF.
The normal dialog box appeared without the error message, but it was set to save it in the path stated in the previous error message.
I just chose another folder from the drop-down box and it exported successfully, as did future attempts.

So, the problem was Finale remembered the last successful Export path and wanted to return there.
Because I had moved the folders, it could not, hence the error message.

Hopes this helps anyone in the future :-)

Best wishes,
:-)
