Hi all,

I just upgraded to Finale 25.  I'm running it on a 27" iMac with 3.3GHz Intel core i5 processor and 8GB RAM with OS 10.11.6.  I also have USB Overdrive installed and have been successfully using it to add enhanced mouse features to previous versions of Finale on this machine (2012, 2014.5).  Unfortunately, USB Overdrive doesn't seem to work with this configuration.  I've updated it to the most recent version.  It works with all my other applications on this machine but not Finale 25.

Has anyone else had this problem?  Is there another third-party mouse driver that works with Finale 25?  Since the elimination of arrow keys in the OS my mouse shortcuts have become an important way of interacting with Finale and I want to get that functionality back.

Thanks!

I've had great luck with SteerMouse in all of my macs. No problems with Finale, Keyboard Maestro, or any other app. Tons of custom features, including support for "chording" - combining multiple mouse buttons to act as triggers. It is also application specific - so you can have your buttons do one thing in Finale and another thing in other apps. Your setups are also transferable - so you don't have to re-do your custom setups for other machines all over again. (Many of the same features as USB Overdrive, but intended for just mice and trackball devices)

SteerMouse

Double check which version you should download based on your currently installed MacOS. It will install as a system preference - not an app. So to customize it - open system preferences and look in the bottom row of the preference icons.

Version 5.3.1 is the latest as of 9/8/18 - and requires MacOS 10.12.x or later.

You should download version 5.2.3 if you intend to remain on MacOS 10.11.6.

There is a 30 day trial download for checking it out before purchase.

Thanks for the info.  I have downloaded and installed SteerMouse and it has given me back almost all of my previous functionality.  The only thing I'm not able to do with SteerMouse that I could do with USB Overdrive is set the side buttons on my mouse to scroll a page at a time in either direction.  Wit USB Overdrive I could set the side buttons on the mouse to go one screen left or right.  With SteerMouse, I can set a scroll value for left or right but it only gives lines and no matter how high I set the value for lines it never goes more than one bar at a time.  Is there some kind of keyboard shortcut for scrolling a whole screen at a time, similar to clicking in the window bar next to the window thumb?

I should add that my keyboard doesn't have an "End" key on it; only a "Home" key.

You are correct - didn't work for me either.

I use KeyboardMaestro in combination with an iPad app called Metagrid to trigger most every action I might need for shortcuts - both simple and many quite complex actions. I only have a 5 button mouse - I use the thumb buttons for zooming in and out. Metagrid for everything else.

The iPad app Metagrid can connect to your mac via either a wired or wireless connection - after installing the companion Metaserver app (free) on your mac.

There are some videos on the web showing very advanced use of this combination to speed up almost every possible action required in Finale. You can have hundreds of custom buttons within Metagrid - very reliable and completely customizable...

Check it out in combination with Keyboard Maestro. They work together.  Metagrid triggers a KM macro, KM executes the actions.

Thank you so much for your helpful response.  MetaGrid sounds amazing.  I'll definitely check it out.  I'm always interested in speeding up my workflow since I spend so much time dealing with Finale.
