Hey everyone, music student in America but originally from Northern Ireland.

I learned music using terms like 'crotchet', 'quaver', 'minim' etc and find it difficult to have to sit and work out which fraction I mean when using finale. Does anyone know a way to change the language on the program to these kinds of terms?

I don’t believe you can specify that. Make a chart, and put it next to your computer! That’s what I did.

The comparative names are not hard to learn if you set your mind to it. I learned the English equivalents as a child along with other campers when someone from the Royal School of Church Music came across the pond to teach us.

The U.S. terms should be even easier since they are fractional, a whole note being a semi-breve and everything else just a fraction of that.

It makes sense to know both. Now if when I have to learn Italian or German to understand unfamiliar score instructions? Now that is a formidable challenge!
