I have Finale 2011. I just installed the software on a new computer (Windows 10 os), registered it, and opened the program so that I rework one of my existing files from a few years back. However, when I click on the file I want to open, it says invalid file type. The file is a .cwp file. It appears that the file type, which I created in my Finale 2011, is inaccessible to Finale 2011 now. How do I open the files to work on them and reprint?

.cwp is not a Finale file format, as far as I know. What happens if you change the file ending to .mus?

TRY THIS ON A COPY OF YOUR FILE,  NOT THE ORIGINAL!!!

.cwp is Cakewalk's file extension.

Thanks, George. So I wonder if the file was worked on in Cakewalk, or if it’s just file confusion?

My guess is the OP created a Finale file and a Cakewalk file of the same music, and the Finale file is misplaced?

Another possibility is that the OP is conflating Finale with Cakewalk?

I've only ever used Finale so not sure why it's doing that. I did try to rename .mus and it still came up invalid. Had a slight ray of hope that it might solve the problem. Thank you very much for the suggestion... I think I'll have to pull my old computer out of retirement and see if I can pull up the files on it and save as .mus for the new one.
