I am about to pull my hair out with Finale!!!  AAAARGH!!!  Why does this playback and repeat ending business have to be brain surgery??!!

When I play back my piece, it repeats okay, but does not jump over the first ending (only one measure) and continue with the second ending. Instead, it plays both the first AND second endings on repeat.

I have searched for an answer, but just cannot fix this problem.

Please, someone - HELP!!

Andre,

How did you create the endings?

If you send me the file at wawoodman at aol dot com, I'll have a look.

All fixed. The poster had set it up manually, which requires a lot more work, rather than with Create First and Second Endings.

Mike, et al,  I'm having the same problem. I created a first and second ending using the Create First and Second Ending' drop down selection. And when I 'Check Repeats' I it spins around and around 20 times and then stops. The first repeat is to go back to the start of the piece and then play up to and jump over the 'First Ending' and play the 'Second Ending' and continue. It keeps doing 'Beginning to First to beginning to First to Beginning, etc. etc." I am missing something. Thanks for any help.

It’s really easiest if we have a file to examine. Send it to me and I’ll have a look. My email is in the post a few above this one.

I removed the D.C. al Coda and some other related things and now the First and Second Endings are working properly. So my issue seems to be in how I configured this other playback features. I'll need to figure this out as I need them to work also.  Mike if you're looking at this you may find some problems in things other than the 1st and 2nd endings. Thanks.

It now works. I started with removing all repeats and then adding them back one at a time starting with the 1 and 2nd ending. Once I confirmed it was working properly I added a DC al Coda and then the To Coda, paying attention to target measures and number of repeats etc. It now works. I must have had something messed up in the way I had the D.C to To Coda configured and the program was confused. Thanks for your help.

That kind of structure is easy to mix up, so you are not alone. :-)

Glad you solved it.

I've often wished that the Check Repeats could be reversed: you draw up the roadmap, and Finale would insert the correct repeat elements. But I know better than to submit a feature request, only adding to my frustration when nothing is done.
