Is there any way to shorten these 32nd beamlets over the rests? Thanks,

Yes, it can be done, but not without a workaround.

From your attached graphic I can see that you (in Document Options - Beams) have selected

Extend Beams Over Rests

and

Extend Secondary Beams Over Rests

- right?

1) To get the desired layout (with those Beaming options selected):

a. Instead of the 32nd rest, enter a special tuplet:

1 Sixteenth in the space of 1 Thirtysecond

This tuplet rest will give the desired beaming.

b. Do not hide the tuplet rests.

Instead, move them down below the bottom of the page (use the plug-in).

In that way the rests will not print, even if they are not hidden.

c. Use the Speedy Entry Tool’s feature {Voice 1 / Voice 2} to enter a 32nd rest in V2.

You must enter the 32nd as a note, then change it to a rest.

2) Another workaround:

In the Document Options, de-select “Extend Secondary Beams Over Rests”.

Then, use the Special Tools Tool to fix the layout:

- Extend “inwards” the 16th note beam (only the 16th note beam). Sub-tool: Beam Extension Tool.

- You can flip broken beams with the sub-tool Broken Beam Tool.

Both 1) and 2) are time consuming workarounds.

Whether 1) or 2) takes less time, depends on the actual Finale document.

Workaround 1) is generally the one I prefer myself.
