I have Windows 10 and am using the trial version of Finale 26.  I still have Finale 2002 on my computer.

I have created some MUSX files with Finale 26, but when I try to open them from Windows File Explorer, Finale 2002 tries to open them (and can't).  I have tried many different ways to make Finale 26 the default app for MUSX, but for some reason Windows isn't letting that happen.  Ironically, Windows seems happy to let me make Finale 26 the default app for the older MUS files created in Finale 2002, but not for its own MUSX files.  Did I do something wrong in my installation?  Or???

Thank you, Mike, for your help.  Unfortunately, this is exactly what I tried, and Windows does not list Finale 26 as an app I can choose for .MUSX files.  It only lists Finale 2002 or Go To App Store.  Oddly Finale 26 IS listed as a choice for the older .MUS files, which, of course, it can't open.  And Finale 26 is a choice for .MUSICXML and .MXL.  Just not for the file type I most need it for!

Does anyone else have this problem, or is it just me?

I solved my problem after a bunch of searching in Windows help forums.  I think it had to do with still having Finale 2002 on my computer.  Anyway, I had to do a registry edit and change the path name from the one for Finale 2002 to the one for Finale 26.

Great! I suspected something like that but I’ve not manned a Windows support desk since 2003. My Win 10 knowledge is quite limited as you can imagine.
