I am trying to write simple 4 part classroom percussion compositions with 2nd graders and can't get the notehead of notes to be centered on the line.  I am using a 1-line percussion staff. This is something I stress to the students when they write their manuscripts on paper and would like it shown correctly when we perform them.  I can only get the note head in the space above or the space below the line.

Playback does not matter.

It sounds like whatever percussion sound you have assigned to this staff has the positioning set to above or below the staff. You can go into the mapping and change the default position to the 3rd line, which when using a single line staff, should be correct.

Since playback isn't involved, another option is to use a "normal", not a percussion staff. In the score manager, change the clef to what you need and choose a one line staff. This setup will allow you to place the notehead on the line or anywhere else you choose.

What program and OS are you working with? Percussion has been revamped in the last few years.

Have you looked over the tutorials and help files?

After several hours of searching, I finally figured out how to access the ScoreManager and got something to work.  In the many years, I've used Finale I've never needed to make changes that way.  I've had a harder time finding exactly what I'm looking for with the new tutorial system as opposed to the Users Manual I used to be able to access.  Thanks for your help.
