I have a strange error on a three different pages of my 16 page, 121 measure document (SATB and piano).

There is an alto solo part that has a melisma that spans three staves on the word “glo-ri-a”. The dashes show on the end of the first stave (glo-) but the dashes are missing on the next four measures on the next stave to the syllable “ri”. Both lines of lyrics (Latin and English) have the problem (see attached graphic (bounding box is around area of missing dashes).

Dashes are missing in the page view and when printed out. However, if I switch to scroll view, the dashes show. If I force fit the first measure of the melisma (in page view) to the following four measures, the dashes show. If I undo the fit measures back to the previous arrangement, the dashes disappear.

This problem also shows up on a tenor solo four pages later on multi-measure A-men as well as the alto again two pages after the tenor. All the soprano and bass melismas though-out the rest document are correct. The text was entered by Typing Into The Score.

I have run the Update Word Extension and Hyphens under Utilities with no change. Also ran Update Layout under Utilities also without any change. I could physically insert the dashes using the articulation tool, but this shouldn’t really be necessary if this error wasn't occurring.

Yes, I had the same results when I tried it. You should send your file (or an excerpt) to MakeMusic  Support directly using the "Submit a request" link at the top of this page.

JAV,

Did you have a copy of the poster’s doc, or did you set it up, yourself?

Derryl,

If you show the hidden staves, do the hyphens show? As Adrian suggested, send it in to tech support. If it’s a hidden staff problem, they should certainly hear about it! But I do the same thing occasionally, and don’t recall it being an issue.

Mike,

I used SmartScore X2 Pro (sound familiar?) to scan in the music above to an xml (without lyrics) that I could open in Finale 26. I then typed the lyric into the lyric Edit panel and click-assigned the syllables into the Finale file.
