Finale 26.0.1.655 on Win10

Hello.  I have found three different ways to add cue notes to a staff. For example - horn hits on the drum part.  What I want to accomplish is copy a line from a horn part and add it to the drum part as cues. Pitches are not important. The rhythmic figures should appear just above the drum staff as ONE pitch.

smart cue notes plug-in:   https://usermanuals.finalemusic.com/FinaleWin/Content/Finale/Smart_Cue_Notes_Plug_in.htm?Highlight=cue

It's not clear to me how this plug-in is supposed to work. Yes, I have read the help text. There are options grayed-out on the bottom half of the pop-up menu that seem to be needed but they are inaccessible.

This method will copy notes to the drum staff (layer 4 for example) but the notes retain pitch and may appear anywhere on or outside of the staff.

slashes with cues:   https://usermanuals.finalemusic.com/FinaleWin/Content/Finale/Percussion.htm?Highlight=cue

This method will give the desired result but I have to reenter the rhythmic figures from another staff and resize notes/rests. There is a "note" on the drum staff called "rhythm cues".  I created the staff syle "slashes with cues".  I've tried copying notes from another staff to layer 4 on the drum staff but that doesn't work as the pitches fall into the drum staff.

Any help appreciated.

Try your 2nd method, cue notes plugin. Then run the "Note, Beam, Rest Editing/Single Pitch" plugin. Set it to G5, all notes should now be on the G just above the staff.

Perfect!  Thanks much.

I also had to define a new staff style for slashes w/cues and apply it to the drum staff.

You might want to update the help text to include those steps if adding cues to a drum staff or any staff where rhythmic figures are needed.

If you're writing for a drumset, and you think about the notes as if they're in bass clef, the "F" space below the staff is usually used for a Hi-Hat controlled by a foot. The "A" space is usually used for a bass drum.

Both of these notes should be entered in layer 2, so the stems point down. Both use full size noteheads, not cue size.
