Hi!

I know the basics how to do this, but I'm wondering if anyone can lay the best procedure out with all options to avoid some of the pitfalls.

I'm recording MIDI from my digital piano, solo Jazz piano, real time.   I'd like Finale to transcribe my playing, bass and treble clef.  My style is not exactly "Stride" or "Art Tatum" style -- but it has elements of those more complex, more syncopated styles.

What are the best settings to use -- especially with quantization.

Can somebody please walk me through setting up a nice template that's going to catch a performance... also, will I need to avoid glissandos and play in strict metronomic time, or will the foot tap option allow for the beat to breathe?

Thanks so much!

Realize that you can Requantize sections of your music at different settings afterwards to help produce your best notation. Of course you should expect to do additional cleanup (perhaps where different layers would be worthwhile).

Good luck. Playing live through Hyperscribe is not easy, as you may already have discovered. Also realize that if you have a DAW, its quantizing tools may be superior to Finale's (according to Tim Davies in his "Extreme Australian Orchestration" article at debreved.com).

Many DAWs now support MusicXML export in addition to MIDI.
