finale 2014.5...I'm having problem understanding how to transpose. The instructions are to click the Staff Tool and to double-click the staff handle to be transposed. Evidently I'm not doing something right because I don't understand what the "staff handle" is therefore the Staff Attributes box does not appear. Though I have had finale for some time I don't use it often and changes take place. As I'm a 91 year old man still writing music, though simple, so much of what to do is beyond me. If someone would be so kind to help this old man, he (me) would appreciate it. Ed

Hi Ed,

Make sure you've selected the staff tool. Now look at the left side of the staves. (It doesn't matter if you're in scroll view or page view). On the top line "F" you should see a little box. That's the staff handle. Double click right on that little box and you should be set.

If it's too small and that's why you can't see it, then you can make the staff handle bigger. In your Finale preferences, go to View, you'll see "Handle Size" on this page. It's 8 pixels by default. Try different numbers until you find one you like.

But I would transpose differently. In the score manager, select an instrument, and in the lower right hand corner is a pulldown menu where you can choose different transpositions and apply them on a staff by staff basis.

In addition, if you have a section of music you need to transpose, you can highlight those measures, then from the Utilities menu choose "transpose", then select which transposition you want.

Also, if you change key signatures in a piece of music, you can choose to transpose all music that follows accordingly.

Hope this helped a little, Good luck.
