Many apologies if this has been covered elsewhere and I missed it. The first system of my vocal pieces often features the piano accompaniment only as the singer(s) enter several bars later and their staves are hidden. This results in the abbreviated staff name being used the first time the singers' parts appear. Is there a way to force the use of the full staff name on a later system, say the 2nd or 3rd, so that the full staff name appears the first time the staff appears?
The so called Full Name is the name used in the very first system of the Finale document.
The so called Abbreviated Name is the name used in all the other systems.
It does not matter whether the name used as Full Name (or as Abbreviated Name) actually is a Full Name (or Abbreviated Name).
Normally you would use e. g. Soprano as the Full Name, and S as the Abbreviated Name.
But you can just as well use e. g. S as the Full Name, and Soprano as the Abbreviated Name.
Finale will not mind.
In the system where the Soprano enters, you could apply a staff style that changes the Abbreviated Name to Soprano.
