Hi
(Finale 26 MacBook Pro 2017 running on Mojave 10.14.5
I am getting no slow down in my ritardando marking. Sometimes this works, most the time it doesn't. Is this a common issue? Does anyone have a fix for this?? Hoping for a simple one Lol
Well, this works, but only because I inserted the Adagio after the rit. indication. But "a tempo" doesn't bring it back to original tempo. You have to bring back the "Allegro" or whatever marking. I have had success in the past, not always of course, making the speed slow gradually without inserting Adagio and Allegro to return to original speed. Is there a way to have "rit." and "a tempo" behave properly without posting actual tempo changes in the score?
Thank you
Mark,
It would be wonderful if this forum allowed users to post files, unfortunately we don't have that luxury.
From this screen shot, you can see a test file I created using the default file. THis works, the a tempo works.
Can you post a screen shot of your file where it doesn't work correctly?

The "a tempo" should revert to the tempo that precedes the molto rit. Where does that original tempo appear in relation to this section I can see? And was that initial tempo created by an expression or is the tempo initially setup in the playback window?
FWIW, when I use molto rit followed by a tempo, it works.
Realize that (if the standard a tempo doesn't work for you) you can always create a custom a tempo and set the playback to the beats-per-minute you want in the Expression editor's Playback Tab.
You can also hide any expression you wish if it helps you surreptitiously control the tempo.
