Trying to edit aiff file created in Finale 25 in garage band.

Using Mac mini (Late 2012) proc 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7 Memory 4 GB 1600 MHz DDr3 Graphics--Intel HD Graphics 4000 1536 MB

I've tried to import .aiff files created in Finale 25 as a musx derived aiff file to garage band to enhance the sound. Garage Band does not accept them. Is this a GB problem or are Finale 25 files not compatible with Garage Band anymore?

Qestion about the new Finale 26. How happy are you users with the new version and any thoughts about Logic Pro X as a substitute for Finale if anyone has gone that route? Been away from writing for a couple of years and am gun shy about Apple becoming intrusive in app interface like iTunes and Garage Band (actually almost all of their software) and gun shy about my experience with the 2014 Apple v Finale fiasco. I lost a whole year of productive work with that feud (as I was told by Finale tech support team). Have not been happy since.

Finale and Logic Pro are not comparable. Finale is a notation app than can also do playback. Logic is a DAW which can do basic notation. I use them side-by-side, but neither one can replace the other.

You can import any .aif you create into GarageBand for editing.

Likewise, you can export MIDI from Finale and import that into GarageBand where you will assign instruments. GB has limited available instruments but if you have 3rd party instruments, you can assign them.

Far better is to get Logic Pro X. MusicXML can be imported into Logic Pro X. Again, you will assign instruments or use the ones that Logic automatically assigns. Logic comes with a large instrument library and it’s easy to import 3rd party libraries.

The Garritan Instruments for Finale cannot be used in other apps. Likewise, GarageBand and Logic instruments cannot be used in Finale. There are plenty of 3rd party libraries can be purchased that will work in both from Garritan, UVI, Native Instruments and many other companies.

11/19/20. Mike, thanks for your reply from an old question I posted here a year ago. Have purchased Logic Pro X and will be working with an audio engineer that I met. Plan to unravel the obscure parts of Logic. I can appreciate the technical benefits but am still tied to the Finale music score approach in my head. Im sure Kenny, the audio engineer will help me migrate to Logic. Finally I'm writing a musical on Stonewall. Keep an eye on it. Hopefully it will attract some producer locally--or NY! ; )

Are you trying to edit the composite sound file or were you trying to export stems? If the latter, you might find it easier to export MIDI and match the sounds to the MIDI within Logic.
