Hi.  I am a previous user of Garritan instruments in Digital Performer on the Mac. Recently I retired. I no longer need all the features of DP, since I am pretty much just doing music for my own enjoyment now. I also migrated from Mac to Windows, because I need to do things more on the cheap these days. I tried running DP 10 on my Windows 10 machine, but the; computer just doesn't have the resources to handle it. It crashes almost immediately. So I am looking for a new sequencing program. I say sequencing because I really don't need to record audio, just do MIDI.  I have been enjoying the current state of playback capabilities in Finale, but I really want a dedicated sequencing program that lets me control more aspects of the sound than Finale allows. I have the latest downloads of the Garritan Anthology (which I love, although Instant Orchestra isn't available in Finale) as well as the UVI sounds that came with Digital Performer.

What I'm looking for is a MIDI sequencer that lets me utilize all the wonderful control codes in the Garritan libraries, is much less of a memory hog than DP, won't break the bank on my retirement income, and doesn't have the steep learning curve of DP. Don't want much, do I? :)  I have tried to research programs online, but I really need advise from actual users.

Can anyone make a suggestion?

As stated, I am using Windows 10 and current versions of all Garritan libraries.

Hi Richard,

Try obtaining the demo version of Reaper. It's fully functional for 30 days.

You may find it at Reaper.fm. It comes with scads of plugins, is user friendly,

with a huge community of users, free updates, and best of all, wait for it........it's affordable.

I can state this because I'm retired also. Give it a try, youv'e nothing to lose.

Cheers,

Thank you for you,r response. Since the time I posted this a lot has changed. I did try reaper, and didn’t much care for the way it works. But I was given a really nice Mac. And so I am back to using DP on the Mac and loving it. Here is one of the recordings I have done.
