In Finale 2014 - when I try to add a dynamic, the program shuts down and I have to restart it.  I am unable to include dynamics in a score.  This started when I was trying to modify the tempo of the score during playback.  I can do all other functions (at least the ones I need), but no dynamics.  

I have uninstalled and reinstalled hoping this would help, but there must have been some sort of 'ghost software' that didn't get fully deleted and when I reinstalled, the computer thought I wanted some of the old back up info.

 Any help is greatly appreciated! 

I am running 2014.5.6359 on a computer running Windows 7.

Try deleting the preference file. When you restart, a new file will be created.

What is the preference file?  Where do I find that?

It took a little longer to find the files than I would like to admit.  But when I followed those steps, it fixed the problem.  Thank you very much!
