Windows 10 64 bit.  Finale 14.5

I have be operating OK for a few years.  Think I had a problem at the outset but can't remember the details (some kind of corruption in the registry).  Anyway … 

I'm not a power user but recently I went to attempt an arrangement & finale seized up.  Wouldn't start.  Would not even let me access task manager to reboot.  A couple more attempts and then my computer would not even boot up.  Had to have the bios redone @Microsoft.   I reloaded finale & the same problem.  Finale just sits there and spins wheels.  Then I get the error from Windows ….collecting data … will shut down and restart.   Cpu works good now but I uninstalled finale to be safe.  I am out of the arranging business until I figure this out.  

I recently uploaded the musescore program to take a look at some interesting arrangements on that site.  Could that be the mistake.  I don't think so ...maybe some other malware?

I doubt that MuseScore has installed malware but, being Windows, there's always the possibility that it messed something up on installation. Equally possible is that one of the many Win10 updates is the real culprit (if I had to guess, that's more likely). A likely culprit is a .dll that has changed functionality without changing the name. If so, could be Microsoft or MuseScore that caused it.

 

MuseScore is free — and worth every penny. Not a lot of support resources other than the army of fanboys ready to chime in with useless information whenever anyone has a problem. 

 

If a reinstall of 2014.5 doesn't fix you up, there's an upgrade path to Finale 26 through your MakeMusic users account. 26 has access to Support and if there are issues accessing your earlier Finale files, Tech Support can help with that, too. Note that you must be running the 64 bit version of the OS before 26 will run.

Thanks Mike.  I think I agree a Windows update must have upset the applecart.  I think I'll upload the trial Finale 26.and give it a try. Probably should have sprung for the upgrade awhile ago.  Thanks again for your rapid response.
