Finale 25.5.0.259 - Mac OS Mojave 10.14.6

I have a need to lengthen or shorten a multi-measure rest in a part for formatting purposes.  I see that I can do this via Edit > Multimeasure Rests > Edit and then change the Measure Width (which I presume is the width of the multi-measure rest) as needed.  I see the results on the page, but when I go to print the page and/or save it as .pdf, the change is undone.  If I make the change, save the document, close/open it, and select the part I'm trying to alter, my change is undone.  I first tried the measure tool and simply moved the right end of the multi-measure rest left/right, but that also doesn't take.  I'm starting to think that this is a) impossible and/or b) a bug in Finale 25.5...but either way, this is throwing a monkey-wrench in my plans and in my schedule.  It would seem like an easy thing to accomplish.

I hope somebody has the answer I need...Thanks!

There's a couple things you can try. First in Document options/Multi measure rests, is "update automatically" checked? If so, un-check it. Also, uncheck "Automatic Music Spacing" in FInale's preferences.

Whenever I want to change the measure size of a multi measure rest, I do not drag anything. I highlight the multimeasure rest, under the Edit menu, you'll see multi measure rest near the bottom. Select that, then choose edit. This is where I numerically put in the value I want for the width.

And lastly, you might want to check out Jari's "Space Empty Rests" plugin. This plugin will go through a part, and change the width's accordingly. For example, if you have two multi measure rests on one system and one is a 2 bar rest, the other is a 32 bar rest, this plugin will make the 32 bar rest wider than the smaller 2 bar rest.

Jeffrey, you've saved the day!  All that you suggested is golden, but the most important thing for me was to uncheck "Update Automatically".  That solved everything for me.  I shall work with Edit > Multimeasure Rests > Edit and test that out thoroughly, and I'll definitely look into that "Space Empty Rests" plug-in from Jari...

Bottom line, however is that I'm good to go now.  You've gotten me past this nagging issue.  Thanks so much!  You're a life-saver...
