In Finale 2014.5 I'm having a great deal of trouble with staves added and deleted by Finale, not by me.  Last night I saved and closed the score as I wanted it. Today I opened it and found Finale had deleted Trumpet 3 and added a second drum stave. What?? The second drum stave is a clone of the one I wrote but I can't delete it without deleting both. Why is this happening? What can I do about it?

What is your operating system?

Have you looked at the score manager to see if you can get any clues?

Windows 10 Enterprise. It's new to me. I re-added Trumpet 3. For the duplicate drum stave, I scrolled it up and laid one directly over the original. I haven't needed to edit the drum part but eventually, I will. This has happened several times. These are not permanent fixes. I'm afraid it will just happen again. Why on earth delete Trumpet 3? And of course, Why add a dummy drum stave that is the same part but can't be edited or deleted. I've looked at the Score Manager, both drum staves are listed, and at the Undo/Redo list. At times it has happened while I've been working on the score and I can find it in Undo/Redo and undo everything back to where the new staves were added. Then, f course, I've also lost all the work I did in between. But this morning when I opened the score and found the changes there was nowhere to undo back to. All Edit had was "saved." I was careful to look it over before saving and closing last night because this has happened so often recently. I reinstalled Finale, got a new computer, I had attributed this to the age of the old one. That wasn't the only reason for replacing the old computer, just something else I thought...hoped. How can I prevent it from happening again?

Thank you so much for responding. I spent a few hours today getting back to (maybe) zero and moving ahead.

Are you working in scroll view or page view?

Do you have any type of a backup system in place, where your HD gets backed up every hour, working in the background?

If not, you might try saving various versions of this file as you work on it? Like: JohnsFile7PM, JohnsFile8PM, etc....

This would allow you to isolate any problem if/when it occurs. Then delete these files when things are back to normal.

O.K. So I should expect this to continue? Why is that?

Both. Scroll to do detail work, page to playback, usually, and to see the big picture.

No, John, you should not expect the behavior you describe to continue.

Do you understand what is going on with my Finale? As per previous suggestions, I'm backing up the score I've been working on in a separate drive. But this has never happened before. I've been using Finale for maybe 12 years, Windows 10 Enterprise for less than a month. But this started happening before I purchased a new computer, altogether for about 6 weeks.  I'm sure it's not supposed to happen. I'm not sure it isn't my fault but I'm at a loss to understand why it happens at all.

Any ideas would be most welcome..Thanks for taking an interest.

It's Finale 2014.5. Upgraded from Windows 2009. There may still be some files from Finale 2003.
