Finale, like any other app, will not be the issue here. If your controller shows up in AudioMidi Setup.app, you're going to be able to use it.

I don't know the Yamaha from the Roland from anyone else in this regard but I can offer this advice: Look for a device that is Class Compliant. This means it can function using Apple's built-in USB drivers.

Some devices are Class Compliant for basic functionality but to use all features, you still need to download drivers. It depends on the device. Some manufacturers are responsive to inquiries but, with others, it's best to find user groups for your keyboard and any you're looking at.

If it's the Motif ES6, that was listed as being compatible with Digital Performer 3.1 and Logic 5, DP 3.1 was released nearly 20 years ago, long before Class Compliance was a thing. It would surprise me if the 64 bit drivers that you need will ever be written.

I still have a couple old Macs that I keep around to read files and projects that go back to my Mac+ nearly 34 years ago.

I just purchased from (of course) Amazon an 88-key keyboard contriller for around $100 bucks.  The say that it i "hot plug supported" and so can be attached with a USB cable.  It only cost about $100.  I will arrive in a couple of days so we will soon find out if it will work.

If your Kbd has MIDI out, you can probably still get a MIDI cable/adapter from Amazon for about $10 that will either come with its own driver or hot plug into the standard OS drivers.

I have a Yamaha DX7 connected this way to my Windows 10 machine with a (Yamaha?) MIDI/adapter cable that works just fine.
