Finale 2014.5 will crash unexpectedly on Windows 10 while editing.

After the crash, YouTube videos display a message, "Audio renderer error. Please restart your computer."

Restarting the computer temporarily resolves the problem.

I can also trigger the crash by clicking MIDI/Audio > Device Setup > Audio Setup > ASIO Setup, then closing the ASIO dialog box.

Setting the audio driver to DirectSound seems to help, though I have not tested this extensively.

My computer's audio driver is up-to-date. The Windows audio driver troubleshooter did not detect any problems.

Reinstalling Finale did not resolve the issue.

Has anyone else experienced this and discovered a solution for Finale 2014.5 to work with ASIO on Windows 10?

Thank you,

Michael Kearney

For the sake of solidarity, I'm getting the same error, with Finale 26.2.2.494 - Whenever Finale is open, no other sounds work on my computer. I can't play music (which is frustrating, when I'm trying to notate something I improvised on the piano two months ago, for example), no youtube, no "ding" when I change the volume. Finale completely USURPS the speakers. The computer is totally up to date, and it has Realtek speakers. Also, Windows 10.

It sounds as if your Audio Card is grabbing exclusive control of your Sound Card. Check your Audio Device settings (which depend on the sound card and driver you are using).

Yep - I found an article about that just after posting, so I unclicked the control, and then the other sounds worked, but I got a sound error in Finale, and it wouldn't work at ALL.......... So I checked that out, and switched some things around - and, long story way shorter - by 2 a.m. I had it working again.

It was a hassle, but it's worth it to get things working again!
