Very interesting problem with Finale 2014.5 on my Mac Mini running Yosemite 10.10.5. Had no problem inputting a very detailed 42 page piano score quite recently. However, when I started my next project-setting some violin/piano pieces for clarinet, harp and string orchestra, disaster struck! Starting with a string orchestra template, I add staves for harp (at the bottom) and clarinet (on top). I then opened up the original violin/piano work and copied and pasted the violin part into the clarinet staff, and the piano part into the harp. All went well. However...at this point I can't undo anything by pressing the Apple and Z keys, as I have always done, and if I put a note into the celli staff, for example, and then one into the double bass staff, the celli note disappears. In other words, the score is useless.

Before throwing out the work I'd done and starting from scratch I thought I'd test things by opening up one of the piano pieces that I had worked on without issue...however...the same problem now exists there as well.

Turning off my Mac Mini and zapping the PRAM doesn't help. Any suggestions? Thanks!!!

Have you installed anything else recently? Did you download the 26 demo?

Zapping the NV RAM means you've rebooted — always the first step. I recommend reinstalling 2014.5, rebooting, then a Safe Boot with the Shift Key held down (this can take time so be patient), then rebooting again — this rebuilds corrupt paths and resets the caches to default.

If that doesn't do it, remove the Preferences (move to the desktop is fine) and reboot. Firing up Finale will create a new Preferences file. See what happens. If that does it, trash the old file that you moved to your desktop.

If you had installed the 26 demo, you may have to reinstall 2014.5 and trash the Preferences to bring it back.
