I have prepared 14 measures to show you, but I don't see an upload option here.  I am using Mac OS High Sierra and Finale 25.5.0.259.

There are twelve lines of music, in this case, just scales occupying one measure each.

They are divided into three groups.  Within each group, the lines are set to octaves in order.  The top line is in the highest octave and the bottom of the four is in the lowest octave.  Consider the octaves numbered 1 though 4.

Any line should be capable of being copied to the same numbered octave in another of the three groups, but some moves do not work that way.  Most do.

When I copy a measure from octave 1 in group 2 to octave one in group 1, it is rendered and notated one octave lower that it should be.  When I copy a measure from octave 4 in group 3 to octave 4 in group 2, it is rendered and notated one octave lower that it should be.

The other moves work.

Why is this happening?  It seems like a defect in the software.

You have not mentioned what instruments you have assigned to various groups.

 

Some instruments transpose when in a transposed scores. For convenience inputting notes, certain other instruments (those that traditionally transpose at the octave like piccolo or double bass) transpose whether in transposed or concert layouts. If you copy these automatically-transposed instruments onto the staff of a different instrument, you will see the intended concert pitches for the source instrument reflected on the new staff.

 

This is an intentional feature added some time ago in response to user requests.

Take a look in Preferences - Edit.

 

Is the option “Respect Instrument Ranges when Copying or Changing Instruments” selected or de-selected?
