Is anyone else having issues with version 26.2.2.493 crashing with OSX 10.15.3? It only happens when I stop playback with either the space bar or the stop button on the playback window, it doesn't matter which is used. It happens about every fourth or fifth time I stop playback. Otherwise, there seems to be no other issues that I have seen.

Thanks,

Tim

Hi, Tim,

I'm not experiencing this but I've solved a number of minor irritating problems in High Sierra/Mojave/Catalina by performing a Safe Boot. This resets the caches to default and repairs corrupt system paths. I have no idea if it will fix anything but it can't hurt. If you go way back on the Mac, this used to be called a desktop rebuild and it still does that.

Safe Boot: Shut down. Boot while pressing the Shift key. Log into your User account when prompted. When your desktop icons have been rebuilt, re-boot. If any of your aliases were showing generic icons, that will be fixed, too.

Of course, send this to MM Support using the Submit a request link at the top of this page. Let us know if they find anything that helps.

If you know how to run Console.app, having a report at the exact time this happens will show what is or isn't happening. Begin it a second before you hit the stop bar and end when the crash occurs. Support may want to see it (I don't work for MM but, if I did, I'd find it useful).

Other than that, OS 10.15.4 should be in its final beta and we should see it soon.

Thanks, Mike. I rebooted in safe mode and it is still crashing. I will send the details to Finale and see if they can suggest anything. I also posted a note on their support site as well.

Thanks,

Tim

UPDATE: It seems to only be crashing on one particular file, as others are not crashing when they are started and stopped. I even tried to get it to crash by starting and stopping several times quickly. The bad news is the file is an opera I am working on with nearly 400 measures in. I guess the program is telling me I've just got too many notes!!

I sent a note to Zuill the Troll!!

Zulli uses Windows, yes? For that reason, it will surprise me if Motet's suggestion works. But, hey, I live for surprises nowadays.

If MM Support or a Console log can't identify the culprit, I would try exporting via MusicXML into a new project. Console logs have revealed a lot of weird old code gumming up the works over the years where deleting the file solved the problem. Awhile back, it was an HP Utility from 2005.

Pure guess but I know that 26 still asks for access to the microphone. Remembering that issue in 2012–2014 makes me wonder... You can check this in System Preferences/Security & Privacy/Privacy/Microphone. I'd be surprised but again…
