Finale 25, Mac OS X

Is there a way to globally change a percussion instrument's initial playback volume?  For example, I am working with a drum set's tom sounds that are not at the same playback volume.  It would be as if the top two toms sound initially at forte while the lower four toms sound initially at piano.  When dynamics are added, the differences in initial volume are still present.  I do not want to go in to each individual note and change its level.  I would rather make an adjustment to the MIDI note itself before using it in the part.

Can anyone tell me if this is possible?  Please let me know if I need to clarify what I am asking.  Thank you in advance!

You can make some changes to relative volume for Garritan sounds in the Aria Player Control tab for drum sets. I generally use Addictive Drums (AD) rather than the Garritan drum sets. AD is not perfect for my needs either (no way to control the internals of the AD player via MIDI) but in my case is better than the Garritan drum set options, which I consider weak.

I did experiment with the Aria controls like you suggested.  Unfortunately. without the ability to control each tom sound, I wasn't able to change the softer, lower toms to match the louder, higher two toms.

I find it strange that two out of the six tom sounds are at a much higher intensity than the other four.

Can you assign the toms individually? If so, use multiple instances of your player (2 or 4); assign one or two of the drums to each instance. If you can only assign the four as a single instrument, then this will not work.

If this is the case, it may be time to find a different library that gives you the control you are looking for. There are some very good ones out there for not much money these days.

Or create a hidden playback staff (or staves) separate from the printed staff to control the different elements separately.

But I admit Mike's suggestion to find a sound source with better controls is a better solution; Finale/Garritan drums are one of its weaker points.

(But as I have said, AD does not give MIDI control of faders and the like to change them during playback.)
