I am using Finale 26 on Windows 10 with MIDI keyboard. While that information is usually requested, this problem has happened for me on earlier versions of Finale, earlier versions of Windows, on different keyboards, and even different computers.

 

Problem Example: I enter a C major triad with speedy entry using a MIDI keyboard and number pad. Then I enter a Bb major triad, but somehow the previous notes from the C triad are added with the notes that I am trying to enter. Even though I am only hold three notes, six notes are being entered. I can even let go of the MIDI keyboard and those notes will continue to enter (when I press a number) as if I am holding the MIDI keyboard. I have to click away from the measure and click back on it to continue. This happens multiple times in a session whether I am entering single notes or entering chords, no matter the instrument, no matter the file. This has happened to me since at least Finale 2012.

 

I have reloaded MIDI drivers. I have uninstalled/reinstalled keyboard. As of right before this post, I have uninstalled and reinstalled Finale. I have never used a pedal.

 

It doesn't happen all the time but frequent enough that I was able to capture it on video. This happened today after reinstalling Finale: https://youtu.be/Q7ymslJOtAg

I would use the "Submit a request" link above to contact MakeMusic support directly with this (although I'm not sure how rapid their response will be since some have suggested problems with this during this health crisis).

 

I have experienced this in past versions of Finale, but not in recent versions (25 & 26 in particular, possible in 2014 also). The old solution(which you probably know) was to switch out of Speedy and then back in; but it should not have been necessary back then, certainly the problem should not be persisting now.

 

How old is your MIDI keyboard? Stuck keys are a possibility, but I doubt that is what is happening.

I did submit a request, but I thought I might drop it in the community as well to see if anyone else has experienced this. I usually click away from the measure then go back it and it works for a while.

 

My MIDI keyboard is less than a year old, an Alesis V25. But this also happened with my Akai Mini.

 

I don't recall having this issue on my Mac at work.
