Finale version 25.3 using Windows 10.

I'm writing barbershop music, 2 staffs, 4 voices/4 layers, tenor/lead in top staff and baritone/bass in bottom staff.  When entering lyrics I need to in some places put different lyrics for different voices, but there does not seem to be a way to do that (and I believe that the layers mean nothing when entering lyrics).  I've tried doing some different things, but now have lyrics on top of each other.  I'm trying to enter in the music (I don't even see the lyric box) and I've tried using the 4 arrows that show up on the left to (I thought) move different lyrics, but they don't seem to do much that makes sense to me and certainly not to solve my problem.  The tutorials don't help me.  Basic entry of one line of lyrics is fine, but the multiple lines, some located on top or bottom of staffs depending upon the voice they are with, are not discussed in the tutorials (other than multiple verses).

The Lyric Arrows are associated with the Layer of the lyrics involved and the verse/chorus/section number of the text.

  1. The right arrow is not applicable to existing lyrics.
  2. The left arrow moves all lyrics, so is not useful for your purpose.
  3. You should use the second arrow from the left (on the appropriate set of lyrics) to move a set of lyrics from below to above the staff throughout the piece.
  4. You can then use the second arrow from the right to adjust individual systems of lyrics up or down.

Bob,

Barbershop lyrics are a whole ‘nother thing! Contact me at wawoodman at aol dot com. I’ll send you a link to a tutorial I did for the Barbershop Harmony Society.
