Have you done the tutorials? Expressions and articulations are covered there. How about the Quickstart videos. I don't know if they were included in FInale 2007, they would be under the help menu.

It's not difficult at all. Enter notes, choose the correct tool, double click on the note that gets the articulation/expression, choose the desired articulation/expression, then click assign/select. Done.

In addition to Jeffrey’s suggestion, could you tell us exactly (step-by-step) what you have been doing, that isn’t working. We may spot the flaw in your process.

To Jeffrey Turner: Thanks for trying to help. No I hadn't. I just saw that Finale 2007 does have Quickstart videos, so I will plan to check them out,  You know, my issues adding articulations and expressions may have actually happened because I clicked above the notes that I wanted to add the articulations/expressions to rather than directly on them. It seemed as though, once I had clicked on "Articulation" or "Expression", and I could actually see the icons for the symbols I wanted to use, AND I could double-click on them, I should have been able to add the desired musical articulations/expressions. Update: No. That was not the problem. I tried clicking on the notes themselves and I was still unable to add the symbol I wanted to use ( a crescendo symbol).

To Mike Rosen: Thank you for your suggestion. I am trying to re-trace what I did now. Just a while ago, I clicked on the Smart Shape Tool icon in the top menu, which brought up a whole list of vertical icons on the far right. I was able to click on/highlight the crescendo symbol I wanted to use, but was unable to highlight the section of music I wanted to add the crescendo to. I was also unable to drag the crescendo symbol to my designated location within my musical score. Do you have any ideas regarding what I might be doing wrong?

Smart shapes are different from articulations and expressions.

For a crescendo: As you did, select the crescendo tool. Move your mouse to where you want it to start. Double-click, but hold the mouse button down after the second. Drag to the right, and when the crescendo is as long as you want it, release the button.

Thank you for the tips, Mr. Rosen.

Unfortunately, I believe that I tried what you suggested above (which I believe was the same thing that was done in a Quickstart video in which a crescendo was added to a piece), yet  I was still unable to add a crescendo to my piece. I'll keep trying different things and I will let you and Mr. Turner know if/when I have success.
