Windows 10, Intel i7 Finale 14.5

I have been using Finale 14 for years but only recently decided to use GPO for output.  I have tried it with 2 orchestral scores I have written.  One gives sound output with midi output but not with VST (GPO).  The other one I somehow got to give an output, but don't know how.  The settings for both scores seem to be identical.  But - if I take the score that does work with GPO and enter notes into an unused measure, the original measures will play but the new one won't.

Any thoughts, please?

In the MIDI/Audio Menu (if this mirrors subsequent versions of Finale), select...

Play Finale Through VST

then select

Reassign Playback Sounds

See if that helps.

If you are nervous about that, do it on a copy of your file saved under a different name.

Hi Adrian - many thanks.  I have tried it, and it didn't work.  The problem is, I don't really know what I'm doing, and I don't know what I did when I managed, on one occasion, to get it to wor.  But, because I did, it's obviously not a basic PC problem, it has to be in the software somewhere.

Hi folks.  I was wondering if it would help some kind soul to help me if I were to upload an example file which I have made, which works in MIDI but not GPO (I assume that's possible for me to do?).

Ian Gregorig,

As the forum software works now, you can not attach Finale documents to your posts.

What you can do, is

- upload the Finale document elsewhere on the web,

- add here a hyperlink to your Finale document.

Peter, thank you very much.  That is very helpful.  I will need to investigate how to do what you suggest, but I will do so and hope to be back with my submission early next week.  Best wishes, Ian

Hi folks.  As suggested, I've added a Dropbox link to a file which I've created (Finale 14.5, Windows 10.)  It will play through MIDI, but not through VST using GPO.  As I mentioned earlier, I have inadvertently managed to get a piece of music to play with GPO, so the hardware must be capable of it.  I'm sure that it's some trivially stupid thing that I've done - or not done - so if someone  would be kind enough to look at the file and put me staight I'd be most grateful.

Ian Gregorig,

I think that you, in your post, forgot to add the hyperlink.

At least I can not find it.

If you use the setup wizard to create a bank score, it should assign all midi information correctly to get playback. Try creating a score like this, then add some notes, see what you get.

I've just created another piece using Jeffrey's suggestion.  As he says, the instruments are correctly assigned to the score, using GPO which I've set as top priority, but they don't play, whether I'm manually inputting the notes or playing them.  But, if I switch to MIDI playback, they play fine.

Hi folks.  It looks as though I've stumped everyone!  Thank you all very much anyway for looking at my problem for me.  Best  wishes, Ian
