Change the Text font in the template(s) you use when creating new documents.

You might like to take a good look at

Document menu > Document Options > Fonts

where you can set default Text fonts for the template.

You can set default Text font for 8 items:

Text Repeat

Ending Repeat

Text Block

Measure Number

Staff Names (Full)

Staff Names (Abbreviated)

Group Names (Full)

Group Names (Abbreviated)

You have not told, what method you use to create a new document.

If you look in

File menu > New

you will see the options

1) Setup Wizard

2) Default Document

3) Template

NB: The folders I mention in the following, are located in your user account.

1) The templates used in the Setup Wizard are called Document Styles.

They are located in the folder Document Styles.

2) In the folder Default Files you can find various Default Documents (and add your own).

To set the program’s Default Document, go to Preferences - New.

3) The templates used when you choose {Document From Template…}, are located in the folder Templates.

Hi Pete! I just made the switch to the new forums. I forgot to mention, I'm using Windows 10 OS, Finale 25.3.0.276. I always launch new documents like this: file > new > the setup wizard > create new ensemble > engraved style. I want to make it so any ensemble I create will use the new text font.

Create a Finale document with all the settings you need (such as e. g. Text fonts - see instructions in my previous post).

Give the document a good file name - like “My Own Engraved Style” - and place it in the folder Document Styles.

From now on it will appear in the Document Setup Wizard.

NB:

You should place the document in the Document Styles folder in your user account.

There is another Document Styles folder at the System level, but that Document Styles folder merely serves as Finale’s “Backup Folder” in case the Document Setup Wizard can not find its own Document Styles folder.

I found the document styles folder at the system level, placed the new save there, and was able to create a new score with the new correct style!! Awesome! But, where is the "user account" folder? I haven't been able to locate that yet. The folder that I found in preferences > folders > document styles is identical to the location I saved it in.

What is the path to the Document Styles folder you found?

Since you were able to use the Document Setup Wizard, and your new Document Style showed up in the Wizard, I suspect that the path begins like this:

C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\MakeMusic\…

Note the directory “Users”.

This is what I meant by my words user account.

I do not understand why you call it “folder at the system level”?

The path to the “Backup Folder” hierarchy begins like this:

C:\ProgramData\MakeMusic\…

Note the directory “Program Data”.

This is what I meant by my words system level.

Perhaps I should have called it root level instead.

Right, I see. So, this path: C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\MakeMusic\… leads to the backup, while this path: C:\ProgramData\MakeMusic\… is where I should have stored the file. Got it. Thanks!

Actually it is the other way around:

To make your new Document Style available in the Document Setup Wizard, place it in the folder at

C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\MakeMusic\…

The other path, beginning with

C:\ProgramData\MakeMusic\…

leads to the folder hierarchy Finale uses as a Backup - in case Finale can not find an important folder or file.

Then the Finale program will restore its lost item by copying from the Backup copy.
