Windows 10, Finale 26 -- not sure if I should post here or on the Garritan side, so I am posting at both place. :-)
//

I had not really noticed this before, but all of the G5 Choir Voices seem to be unresponsive to dynamics.

When a voice enters, it does so abruptly and at "mf" minimum.
If I mark the voice "p" or even "ppp"--same thing.
Crescendi seem to have no effect.

Is there a Human Playback option or preference that might remedy this?

Thank you,
:-)

Not sure what to say. I just did a simple test with the GIfF Choir "Ah"s and HP set to Standard and was able to have a series of notes successfully cresc. from pp to fff and then diminuendo back to pp.

Same thing with a GPO5 Soprano KS, Alto KS, Children's Choir, and Boy Choir, although the swell and dim were not as smooth (IMO) perhaps because some soundbanks had more articulation on the repeated notes..

Hi,

Thank you for the prompt reply.

This really puzzled me because it has not happened before.
But I found the "problem," as it were.

Using separate staves for each voice works fine. However, when I use layers, the problem occurrs.

When I copied Layer One into Layer Two, and assigned L1 to soprano and L2 to alto, the alto enters abruptly and and then both voices respond very minimally to the dynamics.

When the other voice is on a separate staff, each respond accurately to the dynamic markings.

So, with an SATB choir and SA on staff one, and TB on staff two, dynamic are negated and replaced with an "mf" (or higher) whenever the second voice plays.

This line begins with pp but immediately becomes mf with the alto entrance.
Were both voices to begin on beat one, then playback begins with mf .

The crescendo to ff is a slight increase in volume. The decrescendo is slightly noticeable.

I guess until this is fixed, the remedy is to do one notation for print--with two staves,, SATB--and another for playback--with four separate staves.

Again, thank you,
:-)

The ability to give different Layers of a given staff different dynamics is unlikely to change soon, because of the structure built into the Finale Score Manager. The Expressions line of each channel's sub-menu tells Finale which instrument (bank & MIDI channel) reads the dynamics for that staff. Unless one can figure a work-around, this is a limiting factor for Finale users.

Thank you, Adrian,

Sometimes I think I take too much for granted. I have seen incredible improvements and advancements since the mid-90s and the little monk icons.

I oft wondered what the "Expressions" line meant.  :-)
