Windows 10, Finale 2014.5

How can I enter non pitched percussion on a 1 line staff or 5 line staff using speedy with midi and get the correct playback sound? I have been using simple entry for a while but it seems cumbersome. Here's what I have tried but does not always work: I first "change" instrument by going through utilities - change instrument, etc. Afterward I change to speedy tool,, position the cursor on the measure at hand and scroll on the mouse to select the instrument from the five line staff that shows up. Then I will enter the notes by playing the appropriate "pitch" on the midi keyboard that my selected instrument shows up on (treble clef).
