I know that there's a way to control the length of tremolo bars - how close they come to the note stems or whether they touch the stems - but I can't remember what it is.
If I understand you correctly, you are talking about two-note tremolos, not single-note tremolos - right?
Two-note tremolos can be created with the TG Tools plug-in Easy Tremolos.
The plug-in creates the tremolo as a “small” tuplet - e. g. 2 Thirtyseconds in the space of 2 Quarters.
This means that the “tremolo bars” are beams.
The plug-in extends the beams “inwards”.
You can edit the beams with
Special Tools Tool - sub-tool Beam Extension Tool.
With the Beam Extension Tool you can control, what beams are extended inwards, and how much.
