Hello, I've been maintaining an old Windows computer mainly for the Finale 2010 program and files that I've used for years. It's now time to move to a Mac but it appears that this version will not work on the 64-bit macOS Catalina. I've tried registering my Finale 2010 version so I can try to upgrade but it says not allowed. Any suggestions? Also, if I upgrade, will I be able to open the older 2010 files? THANKS!
Re. your second question:
Finale is, and has always been able to open older Finale documents in a newer program version.
That is:
the file format has always been downwards compatible.
The other way around, upwards compatibility (= opening newer documents in an older program version) was never possible with the ‘legacy’ .mus file format.
On The Other Hand, the new .musx file format (introduced with Finale 2014) is upwards compatible; Finale 2014 can open .musx files created in newer program versions.
In Other Words:
Yes, if you upgrade, you will be able to open the older 2010 format files.
Finale will convert the older 2010 format files to the new .musx file format (which the older Finale 2010 can not open).
To be able to (still) use Finale 2010 you can keep a backup copy of the older 2010 format files.
