Static and crackling are usually the result of not having enough RAM, or a slow processor running too many programs at one time. You didn't say, but i'm assuming you're using the Garritan instruments. For comparison, if you playback a piece of music that only consists of piano, do you still get these crackles?

Buffer not being large enough can also be the problem.
