   I am trying to add hand claps to a portion of a measure (two eight notes).  If I go to the Staff tool and apply #14, hand clap, it works but changes all the notes in that measure to hand claps.  I am using Allegro 2012 on a Mac Book Air version 10.14.6.

I’m surprised that a 2012 version works on 10.14.

 

Put those two notes in a different layer. In Score Manager (Instrument List) change the MIDI assignment for that layer.
