I choose the tempo by entering it in the Tempo text box.

Always before, I could change that number to see what a faster or slower tempo would sound like.  

Suddenly I can no longer do that.  I can type a new number but it has no effect on the playback.

Instead I have to copy and past the whole score into a fresh score into which I've entered  my new playback tempo.

Have I accidentally put some lock on?

I use Finale PrintMusic 2010 on a Windows 10 system.

MIDI Tempo data overrides all other means of setting the tempo. (You can Select All and use Clear Selected Items to clear MIDI Tempo Data.)

 

Tempo Expressions override all other means (the text box) except MIDI Tempo data. (You would have to eliminate all Tempo Expressions with Playback Tab set to clear that data.)

 

Finally, one can use the Tempo box on the main screen to set tempo (if the other means have been eliminated).

Thanks for your quick response.

But I don’t follow you.

 

I can select all, under the edit menu, which highlights all the score (if I’m in Measures).  Then I get the attached #1

But where do I find “clear selected items”

Under Midi?  See attached #2.

You won't, in PrintMusic. Clear Selected Items is a feature only in the full Finale. You have Clear All Items in the Selection Tool context menu, but not Clear Selected.
