It's possible to hide rests so that do not print and/or display.

Simply select the rest as you would a note and press the "H" key on your computer keyboard. This will hide it.

Hidden rests may display as "faded." If you do not want to see hidden rests at all, make sure *Hidden Notes and Rests* is unchecked from:

View menu > Show >

If you mean the default measure rest, you can make those not show by entering the Staff Attributes dialog box for that staff. You can also do this locally (on a case-by-case basis) using a Staff Style.

There is also a plugin that changes default while rests to real ones. Then, you can hide them, attach fermatas, etc.

However, I was unable to get other rests to hide. I can select them, but when I press the "H" key, nothing happens.

I figured out the problem. You have to use the control key while selecting the rest. Then the H key hides it. Thanks for you help!

If you are wanting to select notes/rests from the Simple Entry Tool, that's the command for it. I've always used the Selection Tool. The important part is selecting the entry. If you were using the Speedy Entry Tool, that would be another method.
