I am on a MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2016) running macOS Mojave version 10.14.6 with Finale 26.3.1.643

I have done a lot of searching for the issues with cadenzas in Finale and am using the technique of creating the cadenza across several measures. This seems to be the way to do it, since the horizontal split points don't seem to work well (from what I read). I did 5 measures, 6/4. 2/4, 5/4, 8/4 and 1/8 to fit the cadenza in the solo part. I am hiding the bar lines and turning off measure numbers in those measures so the cadenza looks like one measure and the numbering comes out correctly. This works fine in the score and the solo part with the written cadenza. What I am having trouble with is the formatting of these extra measures in the remaining parts. I have hidden the unnecessary rests, so the measures have the correct number of beats, however, I can't squeeze the extra measures enough for the spacing to look correct. In fact, no matter what I do or how the measure looks on the screen, once I print the part, the measure never prints the way it looked. Finale always moves things around to some degree and I can't really get what I want.

I have attached before and after images where it is clear that I can sort of get close, but this took a LOT of trial and error just to get to this point. There is still a pretty obvious gap where those "hidden" measures are located. I can't seem to close that gap any further.

So, how can I squeeze these measures together to look normal in the parts? If there is a simple solution, it would be a great idea to add this solution to the cadenza area of the manual. This has been a very frustrating process.

Thanks in advance!

A simple solution:

Create your score with the cadenza appearing as you want. Make a copy of that score for parts. Delete any extra measures that were used for the cadenza. Keep one of the cadenza measures for the rests which are displayed. The solo part will be the only part you use from the main score, everything else comes from the "parts score".

Thank you Mike. I played with the plugin and I'm not sure what that did for me. I did a ton of trial and errors with the formatting and am still not happy. It did give me better access to some of the functionality, but when I move one object in the measure (or move the bar line), it often greatly effects other objects. I seem to continue to go back and forth between everything either too far one way or the other. Did I mention that it really doesn't always print what I see? I just want the effect of making the extra measures disappear in the individual linked parts.

As to Jeffery's comment, this does sound like an option, however, this method makes a full score impossible. This is for a band arrangement where a full score is needed.

Just as a side note, I did a similar project maybe a dozen years ago (using Finale) where I did one long measure for a cadenza that I split across a couple of lines. It was a pain to do, but I don't remember it being this problematic. All these years later, it is still a problem. There has to be a better way!

Can you give us a screen shot of the cadenza itself?

Here is a shot of the Finale file (so you can see the measure locations) and the PDF print version. As you can see, this works very nicely and the length of the measures help put the breaks in reasonable spots. I still need to play with the spacing in places, but this doesn't look too bad. The cadenza does not pose any problems in the full score, as I have it breaking across the page in a good place, but making the other linked parts look reasonable is the problem. As a note, Letter A is where the ensemble joins in again.
