If no one chimes in here, try contacting MakeMusic support directly via the "Submit a request" link above to see if they will still help you with a Finale 2014.5 error code.

MM is unlikely to respond to a 2014 request but -2 is not a Finale error. All - errors are Mac OS errors, no exceptions. -2 means that Finale cannot write to your file or that the directory is unavailable. It’s the most generic MacOS error there is and goes back to System/Finder on the original Mac.

It used to mean your floppy or hard drive was failing but there are many possible causes. The normal culprit is that Finale and/or your files are not located on your System drive where they belong. If a USB drive went to sleep or the file resides on a removable or network drive where you don’t have permissions to write, -2 can pop up. It can also occur if you installed something that messed up the pathways.

The first thing to do is reboot. If your files are on a remote, copy them to the System drive. Try a Safe Boot to rebuild the pathways and reboot. You may have to reinstall Finale. Find the file and double-click to force Finale to recognize it – use GetInfo if necessary.
